For more than 35 years, Coach Petar Aleksic has been involved in basketball. As a player, he played basketball for 17 years in Yugoslavian I-A and I-B divisions, as well as internationally in Hungary and Switzerland. During his long professional playing career, he played for Leotar Trebinje (Bosnia), BBC Nyon (Switzerland), Union Neuchatel (Switzerland), ZTE (Hungary), FMP Zeleznik (Serbia), NAP Novi Sad (ex-Yugoslavia/Serbia), KK Zagreb (ex-Yugoslavia/Croatia), and JUG Dubrovnik (ex-Yugoslavia/Croatia). In 2004, he began his very successful coaching career, where he worked for the best clubs in ex-Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Additionally, he has coached the most established teams in Austria and Switzerland, as well as Swiss U20 National Team and Swiss Senior National Team. As a player and coach, he won multiple championships and cup titles.
Coach Aleksic can be described as a high integrity hard-working go-getter whose style of coaching is a combination of “old school” mentality and modern principals in regards to maximizing his players’ skills and talents, motivating them, and putting them in situations where they can be successful. Throughout his coaching career he has been the underdog, which prepared him best to win against some of the best competition in Europe. He brings a great deal of basketball knowledge, player development, in-game experience and team-management. His teams are known to be tough high-chemistry teams that emphasize togetherness, decision-making, defense, rebounding, and proper game execution and control. Coach Aleksic is highly respected in Switzerland, as well as internationally. With the Swiss National Team after beating Belgium, Germany, Egypt, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Austria, Denmark, and Iceland, he advanced to the second stage in which they beat Russia.

During the first part of 2024/2025 season, Coach Aleksic coached FMP Belgrade in ABA League/Basketball Champions League, and finished in the middle of ABA League. After 2 months, FMP Belgrade decided to invest in younger players, so Coach Aleksic left the club to persue other opportunities. While coaching FMP Belgrade, Coach Aleksic beat Dubai, Mornar, Split, and Mega, and lost by 2 points against EuroCup team Buducnost.
During 2022/2023 season. Fribourg played Basketball Champions League qualifiers and since they did not advance they competed in FIBA Europe Cup. Coach Aleksic won his 6th Swiss championship, Swiss Cup, and Swiss Super Cup. During his 10 years at Fribourg, Coach Aleksic won 6 Swiss Championships, 5 Swiss Cups, 4 Swiss Super Cups, and 3 Swiss League Cups. He was also named Swiss League Coach of the Year.
Coach Aleksic earned numerous Coach of The Year honors in Switzerland. His career head coaching winning record is at 0.80. During Basketball Champions League Qualifiers, under his leadership Fribourg Olympic was able to beat Russian Avtodor, Dutch Groningen, and Turkish Sakarya in order to advance to play in group phase. While leading Fribourg in European competitions, they were also able to beat Anwil, Oradea, Bonn, and Sibiu.
